Baseball Dominates Purchase on Senior Day on Saturday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team secured two dominant wins over the Panthers of Purchase on Saturday for Senior Day. The final scores were 12-6 and 16-9, respectively. 
 
Old Westbury advances to 13-13 on the season and holds a Skyline Conference record of 4-8. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (12) – Purchase (6)
 
Old Westbury's offense shined throughout the day, starting with a first inning that featured six runs for the Panthers. 
 
RBI singles from Ricky Fasitta, Brian McCloskey and Jacob Taormina helped Old Westbury hold a 6-2 lead after the opening inning. 
 
Fasitta continued his strong day at the plate with a three-run homer to left field in the second inning. Runs were also scored thanks to another RBI single from Taormina and an RBI double from JJ Palumbo
 
Old Westbury held an 11-2 lead before Purchase was able to score two runs in the third and one run in the fourth inning. 
 
OW would score again in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from. Joe Morreale
 
Despite one run in their final frame, Purchase was unable to complete the comeback and would fall to Old Westbury, 12-6 in the first game of the day. 
 
Jacob Taormina went 3-4 with two RBIs and a run. RJ Azarieh pitcher will from the start and also recorded two hits and two runs. Mike Petrucelly had a strong game, recording two hits and two runs. Joe Morreale saw three RBIs on two hits and two runs. Ricky Fasitta dominated offensively as he recorded two hits, four RBIs and two runs. 
 
RJ Azarieh got the start on the mound and threw three innings. He allowed three hits and four runs while recording a strikeout. Johnathan Kortright got the win and allowed three hits and two runs. Kortright struck out four batters. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (16) – Purchase (9)
 
In the second game of the day, the Panthers' bats were just as strong. Old Westbury saw a total of 20 hits as a team throughout the game. 
 
Old Westbury would score two runs in the bottom of the second on a two RBI double from Brian McCloskey followed by a run in the fourth thanks to a homer from Zachary Horowitz
 
With a 3-3 game going into the fifth inning, Purchase recorded four runs to take a 7-3 advantage. 
 
Old Westbury responded with a big sixth inning featuring six runs. 
 
Back in control OW held a 9-7 lead. Purchase would score one run in the top of the seventh, but Old Westbury responded with five runs thanks to a three-run homer from Mike Petrucelly and a two RBI double from JJ Palumbo.
 
Old Westbury added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth and would go on to take down the Panthers of Purchase by a final score of 16-9.
 
JJ Palumbo dominated as he recorded four hits, four RBIs and two runs. Mike Petrucelly finished with three hits, five RBIs and one run. Ricky Fasitta had another strong game where he recorded three hits and three runs. Zachary Horowitz and James Reilly also had strong games at the plate with three hits and two hits, respectively. 
 
Kyle Cavataio got the start and threw five innings. He struck out six batters and allowed six earned runs. Louis Pizzileo threw four strong innings of relief. He struck out four batters and allowed just four hits.
 
Next up, the Panthers return to action for a conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Monday, April 21. The Panthers and Bears face off at 3 PM.
