Softball Taken Down by Manhattanville Twice on Tuesday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team was taken down by the Valiants of Manhattanville University on Tuesday night. The Panthers fell 11-4, then 8-0.
 
The Panthers now fall to 12-16 overall on the campaign and hold a Skyline Conference record of 4-6.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (4) – Manhattanville (11) [Seven Innings]
 
Manhattanville got going right away in the scoring column as they scored four runs in the top of the first inning as they stole home and saw a three-run homer to left field.
 
Old Westbury responded in the bottom of the first inning with a run of their own thanks to Madison Danin reaching on a fielders' choice for an RBI to score Zoe Rivera.
 
With a 4-1 game, the Valiants scored another three runs in the top of the third to make it a 7-1 advantage in their favor as Emily Mottoshiski homered for the second time.
 
The Panthers managed to put together a rally thanks to an RBI single from Alaina Reilly to score Hillary Bennett. Zoe Rivera then doubled down the left field line to score Stella Apuzzi (who pinch ran).
 
With the game now 9-4, Manhattanville added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning.
 
The Panthers were unable to mount a comeback and fell to the Valiants, 11-4 in the first game of the day.
 
Old Westbury finished with five hits as a team. Alaina Reilly went 1-3 at the dish with two RBIs. Zoe Rivera finished with one hit, one run and an RBI. Amanda Varela, Ashley Pierce and Juliana Vasquez each recorded a hit.
 
In the circle, Taylor Murphy got the game one start. Murphy pitched five innings where she allowed 10 hits and struck out two batters. In relief, Hailey Ragozine threw two innings and allowed just two hits.
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (0) – Manhattanville (8) [Five Innings]
 
The Panthers managed to limit the Valiants' offense through the first five innings. The two sides remained even at 0-0 with solid pitching from both sides.
 
Manhattanville scored all of their runs in the fifth inning. The Valiants scored a run on a double to left field then two runs on a triple to center field. Samantha Walsh then launched a two-run home run off the left field foul pole to make it a 5-0 game.

The Valiants tacked on three runs on a double and a fielding error by the Panthers allowing all runners to score.
 
The Panthers were unable to score in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the game. Old Westbury would fall to Manhattanville, 8-0 in five innings.
 
The Panthers were held to just one hit. Ashley Pierce recorded the lone hit for Old Westbury.
 
Layla Ramos got the start in the circle. Ramos allowed eight hits and five earned runs. Ramos struck out two batters and walked one.
 
Next up, the Panthers will continue Skyline Conference play with a big matchup against the Bears of St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Saturday, April 26. The Bears and Panthers will face off from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex with the first pitch scheduled for 12 PM.
