Softball Dominates Brooklyn College in Non-Conference Sweep on Friday; Ragozine Tosses Game Two No-Hitter and Complete Game Shutout

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team secured two non-conference wins over the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Friday. The Panthers were victorious, 10-4 and 8-0, respectively.
 
The Panthers improve to 14-16 overall on the 2025 campaign.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (10) – Brooklyn College (4)
 
The Panthers took advantage of a big opening inning as they saw five runs thanks to a big two RBI single from Amanda Varela and an RBI single by Faith Binaso.
 
Brooklyn responded as they drew a walk to score a run in the bottom of the first.
 
The Bulldogs managed to make it a one run game at 4-5 thanks to a single and an error by the Panthers.
 
Old Westbury scored a run in the top of the third inning thanks to an RBI from Juliana Vasquez who scored Varela.
 
With a 6-4 lead, the Panthers added four insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from Alaina Reilly, an RBI double from Ashley Pierce, a sac fly from Madison Danin and a sacrifice bunt from Layla Ramos that scored Stella Apuzzi.
 
The Panthers would hold on and defeat the Bulldogs, 10-4 in the opening game of the day.
 
For the Panthers, Alaina Reilly went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs. Layla Ramos recorded two hits, two RBIs, and a run. Amanda Varela dominated as she went a perfect 3-3 at the dish. Varela recorded two RBIs and two runs.
 
Layla Ramos tossed the complete game for the Panthers. Ramos allowed just one earned run while striking out six batters.
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (8) – Brooklyn College (0) [Six Innings]
 
Old Westbury saw another big first inning on the scoreboard. Alaina Reilly got the scoring going with a single to right field. Ashley Stewart would hit an RBI single to score Reilly. Amanda Varela hit her second two RBI hit of the day.
At the close of the first inning, the Panthers led 4-0.
 
Old Westbury would score its next pair of runs in the fourth inning. The Panthers scored thanks to an RBI single from Olivia Toto and a sacrifice bunt from Juliana Vasquez.
 
Leading, 6-0, the Panthers tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth.
 
The Panthers would end the game after six innings and win, 8-0.
 
Old Westbury saw an abundance of offensive production with nine hits as a team.
 
Zoe Rivera went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run. Alaina Reilly recorded a hit, an RBI and a run. Madison Danin had two hits and a run. Amanda Varela continued her strong day with a hit, two RBIs and a run.
 
Hailey Ragozine was dominant from the circle, throwing a no-hitter. Ragozine struck out five batters while tossing the complete game shutout.
 
Next up, the Panthers return to Skyline Conference play. Old Westbury will face off against Purchase College on Sunday, April 27. The first game on the road is scheduled for 1 PM.
