Softball Shuts Out Lehman with Doubleheader Sweep on Friday Afternoon

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -  The SUNY Old Westbury softball team dominated the Lightning of Lehman College on Friday. The final scores were 9-0 and 7-0, respectively.
 
The Panthers now improve to 3-9 overall on the season. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (9) – Lehman (0) [Five Innings]
 
The Panthers got going in the scoring column early. Old Westbury's first runs came courtesy of Madison Danin who launched a two-run homer to left field. 
 
Old Westbury would score their next runs in the bottom of the third inning. To make the score 9-0. The Panthers' runs came thanks to an RBI single from Ashley Pierce, an RBI single from Olivia Toto and a three RBI doble from Alaina Reilly. The Panthers also scored thanks to Zoe Rivera reaching on an error. 
 
The Panthers held on to shut out the Lightning, 9-0 in the day's first game. 
 
Alaina Reilly went 2-3 at the dish with three RBIs and a run. Madison Danin also went 2-3 as she finished with two RBIs and a run. Amanda Varela would also finish the game with two hits.  Zoe Rivera, Madison Muehling, Olivia Toto and Phylicia Cangemi each recorded hits throughout the game. 


In the circle, Layla Ramos got the start where she threw the entire game, allowing just one hit. Ramos struck out seven batters. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (7) – Lehman (0)
 
The Panthers would first score in the second inning of the second game thanks to Ashleigh Stewart reaching on an error. 
 
With a 1-0 lead, Danin would hit an RBI double to score Reilly. Ashley Pierce then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Rivera for another run. 
 
Madison Muehling recorded an inside the park home run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score, 5-0. 
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Old Westbury would score two more runs as Hillary Bennett reached on an error. 
 
The Panthers took the second game of the day by a final score of 7-0. 
 
Alaina Reilly finished with another three hits and a run. Zoe Rivera recorded two hits and a run. Madison Muehling went 2-2 from the plate and recorded two RBIs and two runs. Morgan Albright and Madison Danin (one RBI) both recorded hits and runs. 
 
Hailey Ragozine got the start and allowed just two hits while striking out six batters. Taylor Murphy threw one inning of relief and allowed one hit while recording a strikeout. 
 
Next up, the Panthers are scheduled to face off against Hunter College at home on Tuesday, April 8. That game will take place at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex and is scheduled to begin at 4 PM.
