Softball Sweeps Yeshiva in Conference Doubleheader on Friday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury softball team defeated the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Friday in both games of the doubleheader. The final scores were 21-1 and 15-1, respectively. 
 
Old Westbury improves to 20-16 overall on the campaign with a Skyline Conference record of 10-6.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (21) – Yeshiva (1) [Five Innings]
 
Old Westbury came out of the gates strong, outing up six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Runs came thanks to RBI hits from Alaina Reilly, Ashley Pierce, Layla Ramos, Amanda Varela and Juliana Vasquez
 
With a 6-0 lead, the Panthers had their largest inning, offensively in the bottom of the second. Old Westbury poured on 11 runs thanks to RBI hits from Pierce, Madison Danin, Ramos, Varela, Phylicia Cangemi, and Hillary Bennett. Pierce reached on an error by Yeshiva to score a run and Muehling walked in a run. 
 
Leading 17-0, the Panthers would score three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a single through the left side by Vasquez and a two RBI single to center field from Cangemi. 
 
Yeshiva scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth on a passed ball. 
 
Gianna Pulsonetti scored the final run for the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth. 
 
Old Westbury would walk away with the game one victory by a final score of 21-1. 
 
For the Panthers, the team finished with 20 hits. Phylicia Cangemi impressed with two hits in two at-bats. She recorded four RBIs and a run. Alaina Reilly went 2-2 at the dish with two RBIs and three runs. Ashley Pierce went 3-4 from the dish with four RBIs and two runs. 
 
Layla Ramos recorded two RBIs and two runs on a hit. Juliana Vasquez went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a run. Amanda Varela went 2-2 with two RBIs and a run. Madison Danin played well with two hits, two RBIs and two runs. 
 
In the circle, Layla Ramos got the start. She threw three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters. Christina Ravo threw two innings of relief where she allowed just one run and struck out two batters. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (15) – Yeshiva (1) [Five Innings]
 
The Panthers got going early once again with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. OW scored thanks to a two RBI single from Morgan Albright who singled through the right side. 
 
Leading, 2-0 the Panthers poured on nine runs in the bottom of the second inning. The runs came thanks to a double down the left field line from Madison Muehling, an RBI double from Zoe Rivera, a single up the middle from Alaina Reilly, an RBI double from Madison Danin, an RBI single up the middle by Morgan Albright, an RBI single from Phylicia Cangemi, and a pair of RBI single from Hailey Ragozine and Muehling. 
 
The Panthers held an 11-0 lead before adding two runs in the third inning as Olivia Toto tacked on a run thanks to drawing a walk and Hillary Bennett singles to the SS for an RBI. 

Old Westbury added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth before Yeshiva added on their lone run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Tali Finkelstein. 
 
The Panthers walked away with the game two win and sweep, taking the second game, 15-1. 
 
As a team, OW finished with 17 hits. Madison Muehling recorded two hits, two Rbis and a run. Zoe Rivera finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run. Alaina Reilly finished with three hits, one RBI and two runs. Madison Danin and Morgan Albright each recorded two hits and multiple RBIs and runs. Hillary Bennett went a perfect 3-3 with an RBI and a run. Olivia Toto, Phylicia Cangemi, and Hailey Ragozine each recorded a hit and an RBI. 
 
Hailey Ragozine got the start and did not allow a hit the entire game. She tossed 4.1 innings and struck out 10 batters. Madison Danin made a relief appearance where she allowed two hits and a run. 
 
Madison Danin played all nine positions at one point during the game. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will close out the regular season, tomorrow, Saturday May 3. The Panthers will host the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent for a conference doubleheader starting at 12 PM from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Prior to the games, the Panthers will celebrate and honor their senior student-athletes with a Senior Day celebration.
