The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team defeated the Knights of Mount Saint Mary, 95-78. With the win, the Panthers improve to 6-14 and 4-6 in Skyline play. Mount Saint Mary sits at 2-17 (0-10 Skyline) in the loss.
Josh Minton sank six of nine three-pointers en route to a 31 point afternoon to lead all scorers.
Christian Thomas followed with 20 points, shooting 8-of-15, to go with seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal.
Imole Akinwale followed with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while adding five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.Â
The Knights started the contest off strong, scoring 10 of the first 12 points. Back-to-back three-pointers from Thomas helped Old Westbury take a slight lead before a Knights layup knotted the game at 19. The Panthers exploded for an 21-5 run to end the half with a commanding 43-26 lead. The lead would continue through the rest of the contest. Mount Saint Mary would come within nine in the final three minutes, but the Panthers closed the contest on a 10-2 run that saw them go 8-of-8 from the foul line for the victory.
Old Westbury returns to the Clark Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 4 at 7:00 PM against Mount Saint Vincent.Â
