Men's Basketball Stumbles at St. Joe's Brooklyn

The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the Bears of St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Saturday afternoon from The Hill Center. The loss sets the Panthers back to 8-16 on the season and 6-8 in Skyline Conference play while St. Joe's improved to 8-15 (5-9 Skyline).

Jermaine King Jr. led the Panthers with 21 points. Joel Ofori followed with 11 and added a team-leading 15 rebounds for a double-double to go with four blocks and a steal. Josh Minton also finished with 11 points. 

After some back-and-forth action in the opening minutes of the contest, an eight-point run from the Bears put them ahead 23-14 with six minutes remaining in the half. The Panthers would come as close as six but ultimately trailed 33-24 at the break.

Down by 13 after five minutes of second half action, Old Westbury responded with an 11-1 run to come within three, 43-40 with 10:46 to play. The Bears hit three three-pointers in the second half and shot 7-of-11 at the foul line to hold on for the victory. 

Old Westbury will be back in action on February 18 at 7:00 pm against Maritime from the Clark Athletic Center.
