The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the Bears of St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Saturday afternoon from The Hill Center. The loss sets the Panthers back to 8-16 on the season and 6-8 in Skyline Conference play while St. Joe's improved to 8-15 (5-9 Skyline).
Jermaine King Jr. led the Panthers with 21 points.
Joel Ofori followed with 11 and added a team-leading 15 rebounds for a double-double to go with four blocks and a steal.
Josh Minton also finished with 11 points.Â
After some back-and-forth action in the opening minutes of the contest, an eight-point run from the Bears put them ahead 23-14 with six minutes remaining in the half. The Panthers would come as close as six but ultimately trailed 33-24 at the break.
Down by 13 after five minutes of second half action, Old Westbury responded with an 11-1 run to come within three, 43-40 with 10:46 to play. The Bears hit three three-pointers in the second half and shot 7-of-11 at the foul line to hold on for the victory.Â
Old Westbury will be back in action on February 18 at 7:00 pm against Maritime from the Clark Athletic Center.
