Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Yeshiva

A strong fourth quarter nearly clinched the SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team a victory over the Macabees of Yeshiva University, but the Panthers came up just short at 59-58. The loss sets Old Westbury at 2-16 on the season and 1-15 in Skyline Conference play. Yeshiva improved to 2-19 (1-15 Skyline).

A 6-0 run midway through the first quarter put the Macabees ahead, 11-3. The lead would reach double digits on eight occasions throughout the contest, including as late as 52-42 with 5:26 left in the game before the Panthers mounted their comeback. An 8-0 run that saw four points from Endya Greene and three from Korrina Plair brought the home team within one, 52-51. A three-pointer from the visitor would make it a two-possession game with just over 2:30 to play. Three points from Greene paired with two foul shots from Aissata Kone put the Panthers ahead, 58-57, for the first time since the opening possession. A costly turnover resulted in points for Yeshiva to put them in front, 59-58 with 61 seconds on the clock. Old Westbury missed two three-pointers in the final minute, giving the Macabees the win. 

Greene led all scorers with 32 points, adding 12 rebounds for a double-double to go with two steals, one assist, and one block. Plair followed with her own double-double at 19 points and 17 rebounds to go with two steals. Kone netted six points to go with nine rebounds. Sakhmet Lewis led with four assists. Sonasia Walker also had two steals.
