Panthers explode for 22 runs in doubleheader sweep over John Jay

Old Westbury scores 22 combined runs as multiple Panthers deliver big performances in 6-3 and 16-6 victories

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team put together a dominant offensive showing on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against John Jay College at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The Panthers took Game 1 by a score of 6-3 before erupting for a 16-6 win in Game 2.

GAME 1: Old Westbury 6, John Jay 3
The Panthers used a five-run third inning to take control and never looked back.

Mike Petrucelly led the way offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Chris Bartnik added an RBI single and later scored, while Mike Tiseo and JJ Palumbo each crossed the plate during the decisive inning.

Sean Erdmann contributed an RBI, and the Panthers capitalized on miscues, scoring multiple unearned runs to build separation.

On the mound, James Reilly earned the win, helping Old Westbury hold off John Jay after they took an early lead.

GAME 2: Old Westbury 16, John Jay 6
Old Westbury's offense exploded in Game 2, scoring in five different innings, including a five-run second and five-run sixth to put the game out of reach.

Donny Whalen delivered a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Angelo Velez added a strong showing with three hits, one RBI, and three runs scored.

Nick Mace collected three hits and scored twice, while AJ Giel scored three runs and drove in one. John Gilroy added two RBIs, and Dean Pasolini chipped in with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning.

The Panthers finished with 16 hits as a team, showcasing depth throughout the lineup.

Anthony Ponzo earned the win on the mound for Old Westbury.

WHAT OLD WESTBURY DID WELL
Old Westbury's offense was the difference all afternoon, combining for 22 runs and consistently applying pressure with runners on base. The Panthers also did a strong job capitalizing on errors and timely hitting, turning key moments into multi-run innings.

Donny Whalen stood out across the doubleheader, delivering clutch RBIs and leading the offensive surge in Game 2, while multiple players contributed to a balanced and explosive lineup performance.
