BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury softball team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Brooklyn College on the road. The Panthers powered their way to a 12-3 victory in Game 1 before closing out the sweep with a 12-2 win in Game 2.
GAME 1: Old Westbury 12, Brooklyn 3
Old Westbury wasted no time establishing control, scoring early and breaking the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
Arianna Valle and Jessica Feerick each recorded three hits and scored multiple runs to lead the Panthers' offensive surge. Katie Knecht drove in three runs, while Amanda Varela and Faith Binaso each contributed multiple RBIs in the decisive fifth inning.
Yelina Arias and Camila Uribe added key RBIs as the Panthers finished with 18 hits as a team.
Olivia DeRose earned the win in the circle, helping limit Brooklyn's offense and maintain control throughout the contest.
GAME 2: Old Westbury 12, Brooklyn 2
The Panthers carried their momentum into Game 2, erupting for eight runs in the opening inning and never looking back.
Aliya Feerick led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring three runs and setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Jessica Feerick followed with a 2-for-4 outing and two runs scored.
Caragh Doyle delivered a strong performance, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Amanda Varela also drove in two runs. Madison Muehling contributed two RBIs, and Samantha Ravo added a two-RBI hit to cap off the offensive outburst.
Katie Knecht and Camila Uribe each added RBIs as Old Westbury totaled 14 hits in the game.
Hailey Ragozine earned the win in the circle, helping secure the doubleheader sweep.
WHAT OLD WESTBURY DID WELL
Old Westbury's offense was dominant across both games, combining for 24 runs while consistently producing with runners in scoring position. The Panthers also showcased depth throughout the lineup, with contributions coming from multiple players in every inning.
Aliya Feerick stood out across the doubleheader, reaching base consistently and scoring runs at the top of the order, while the middle of the lineup delivered timely extra-base hits and RBIs.
