OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader against Manhattanville University on Friday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The Panthers opened the day with an 8-2 victory before falling in a high-scoring Game 2, 15-13.
GAME 1: Old Westbury 8, Manhattanville 2
Old Westbury came out aggressive, scoring four runs in the first inning to set the tone early.
Brandon Hernandez and Mike Tiseo each delivered RBI singles to ignite the offense, while continued pressure at the plate allowed the Panthers to add insurance runs in the middle innings.
Hernandez led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Mike Petrucelly drove in two runs. James Reilly added a multi-hit performance with an RBI, and both JT Torres and JJ Palumbo recorded two hits and scored twice.
On the mound, Vinny Giambona earned the win with a strong outing, limiting Manhattanville to just four hits and two runs while keeping the offense in check.
GAME 2: Manhattanville 15, Old Westbury 13
Game 2 turned into an offensive battle, with both teams combining for 28 runs and 39 hits.
Old Westbury responded after an early deficit with a five-run third inning, highlighted by a grand slam from James Reilly that swung momentum in favor of the Panthers.
Reilly delivered a standout performance, finishing with eight RBIs on the day, including the grand slam in Game 2. JJ Palumbo had a huge game at the plate, going 5-for-6 with two runs scored, while Brandon Hernandez added four hits and three runs.
Mike Tiseo contributed three hits and two runs, and Mike Petrucelly added two RBIs. Despite the offensive output, Manhattanville was able to regain control late and hold on for the win.
WHAT OLD WESTBURY DID WELL
Old Westbury's offense was consistent throughout the doubleheader, totaling 31 hits and scoring 21 runs. The Panthers showed the ability to produce in bunches, highlighted by big innings in both games.
James Reilly led the charge offensively across both games, delivering timely extra-base hits and driving in runs in key moments, including a grand slam in Game 2.
