PANTHERS OUSTED IN THE 1ST ROUND BY STOCKTON COLLEGE

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The Old Westbury men's basketball season ended on Wednesday night with a first round ECAC Metro Championship Tournament loss to Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, 78-73.  The Panthers led 42-40 at the half and were out-scored by 7 in the second half, 38-31.

Old Westbury trailed by 9, 11-2 within the first 3 minutes of the game and fought their way back in with a 40-31 run to finish off the half up by 2, 42-40.  Jerome Hubbard scored 18 first half points and shot 4-of-6 from downtown in the first half.  Both teams shot 17-of-30 (56.7 percent) from the floor in the opening half.  The second half was a see-saw battle and with 4:05 to go in the game the Panthers trailed by 2, 69-67.  Ian Johnson scored the next 5 points for Old Westbury which put them up by 1, 70-69.  Jerome Hubbard took matters into his own hands and connected on a three-pointer put Stockton up by 2, 72-70.  Kenneth Eusey matched Hubbard with a three-ball of his own to give the Panthers a 73-72 lead with 2:24 to go.  Stockton College held Old Westbury scoreless over the final 2:24 to go onto a 78-73 win to end the Panthers season.

Old Westbury recorded four Panthers in double-digits led by Divine Jackson, who scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor.  Jackson added 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.  John Ignacio came off the bench and ignited the Panthers to an early run to get back into the game.  Ignacio totaled 11 points and knocked down 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.  Dan Kane shot 5-of-7 from the floor and tallied 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds.  Garthlette James contributed 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go along with 2 steals.  Ian Johnson and Kenneth Eusey added 8 points apiece.

Jerome Hubbard led the way for Stockton College with a game-high 33 points on 7-of-11 shooting from three-point land.  Hubbard added 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal in 40 minutes of action.  Jon Greene tallied 19 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists.  Derrick Williams and Mario Lancioni added 10 points apiece.

Old Westbury out-rebounded Stockton by 1, 27-26.  The Panthers shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field and recorded 12 steals and forced 18 turnovers on the defensive end.
