WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOPPED BY BARD AND SAGE IN CONFERENCE OPENER

SEPTEMBER 20, 2008

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team opened up their Skyline Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Farmingdale State as the Panthers dropped 3-0 decisions to both Bard College (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) and Sage College (25-8, 25-19, 25-9).  Old Westbury concluded the day 3-13 on the season and 0-2 in league play.

Sophomore Siobhan West (Flushing, N.Y.) sparked the offense for the Panthers against Bard College and was just one dig shy of a double-double as she paced the team with nine digs and 24 assists.  Junior L'oreal Ellington (East Moriches, N.Y.) had 10 kills, nine digs and two aces while freshman Debra DePalma (New Windsor, N.Y.) recorded seven kills and seven assists.  Freshman Tonya Miller (Nyack, N.Y.) smashed five kills to hit .385 on 13 swings to go along with two blocks.  Senior Danielle DeVaul (Binghamton, N.Y.) led the defensive attack with 16 digs at the same time as senior Colleen Smith (Copiague, N.Y.) had seven digs and four kills.  Freshman Tynisha George (Medford, N.Y.) added eight kills and two aces. 

Against Sage College, Danielle DeVaul led Old Westbury's defense with 16 digs in addition to two aces, while Siobhan West posted a double-double combining 11 digs and 10 assists.  Tynisha George added six kills and five digs as classmate Debra DePalma drilled seven digs and handed out five assists.  Tonya Miller chipped in with three blocks and three kills.
