OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury volleyball team pushed their win-steak to six matches
on Saturday as the Panthers earned a 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-11) win
over the Maritime Privateers and a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-18) win
over the Purchase Panthers in Skyline Conference action at the
Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury improves to 10-13
on the season and 2-4 in league play with the pair of
victories.
Sophomore Kristina Giordano (Huntington Station, NY) carried Old
Westbury to victory against Maritime, leading the Panthers with 12
aces, 15 assists and three kills on five total attacks on .600
hitting, as no other player finished in double figures for Old
Westbury. Sophomore Tynishia George (Medford, NY) led the
Panthers in digs with seven on the match and added five
kills. Freshman Tinamarie French (North Babylon, NY) and
classmate Shari Quiles (Bronx, NY) helped on the defense, tallying
five and four digs, respectively. Quiles and sophomore Tonya Miller (Nyack, NY) led the Panthers in blocks with one each while
Miller led the squad with six kills on 11 swings.
As a team, Old Westbury hit .236 with 21 total kills and eight
errors in 55 total attacks. Old Westbury's best hitting came
in the second set with seven kills and zero errors in 14 total
attacks for .500 hitting percentage.
In the second match of the day, Giordano led the Panthers with
18 assists and four aces. She added two kills while Tynishia
George and junior Ashley Greene (Bay Shore, NY) led the team with
nine kills each. George hit .500 on 18 swings with zero
errors to go along with a team-best 10 dig performance.
Tinamarie French and freshman Katrina Zapanta (Astoria, NY)
followed with eight and seven digs, respectively. Tonya Miller led the Panthers with five solo blocks and three block
assists.
Old Westbury hit .231 as a team with 31 total kills and 13
errors on 78 total attacks. The second set once again
featured their best hitting with 10 kills and three errors on 26
swings to hit .269.
CITY TECH NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury
will host non-conference foe, City Tech on Wednesday, October
14th to kick-off Panther Pride Week. First serve
