OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury women's soccer team evened its record at 4-4-1 on the
season (3-1 Skyline) with a 9-0 win over Skyline Conference foe,
Mount Saint Vincent (0-6 Overall, 0-2 Skyline) on Wednesday
afternoon at Panther Park.
The Panthers scored seven goals in the first half to put the
game out of reach early. Sophomore Cassandra Esposito (Valley
Stream, NY) scored the first goal at the 5:33 mark on an assist by
senior Jennifer Campisi (Commack, NY). Sophomore Julianne Abel (New Hyde Park, NY) followed with her first score of the
season at the 7:00 mark while senior Courtney Dixon (Baldwin, NY)
scored at 7:45.
Abel then took over as she recorded two assists, feeding Campisi
for her fifth goal of the season at the 11:32 mark followed by a
Dixon score at 11:41. Sophomore Chryssanti Nicholas (Albany,
NY) and classmate Keisha Carter (New Rochelle, NY) rounded out the
first half scoring, netting goals at the 39:30 and 43:50 marks,
respectively. Senior Jessica Manning (Cale Place, NY)
registered her first assist of the season on the Carter goal before
the half.
Dixon picked up a hat trick with her third goal in the
53rd minute on a penalty kick. It was her first
career hat trick and her fourth career multi-score game while tying
a career-best with her six-point effort (Sept, 16, 2009 at
Yeshiva). Sophomore Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, NY) capped off
the scoring at the 58:47 mark with her first goal of the season off
an assist by Cassandra Esposito.
Kupfer and junior Melissa Romero (Huntington Station, NY)
combined for the shutout, with Romero recording the lone save of
the match. Kupfer and Romero teamed up to notch the fourth
shutout of the season, a new school record which was set in 2008
with three shutouts.
Old Westbury set a school record for shots in a game with
52. A previous mark of 34 shots was set vs. CCNY on Nov. 1,
2008. The squad also set a record for shots in the first half
(25), previously set against College of Saint Elizabeth (20) on
Sept. 5, 2009 in addition to setting a record for shots in the
second half (27), breaking the previous record of 19, which was set
against Yeshiva University (19) on Sept. 16, 2009. Cassandra Esposito also set a school record with 13 shots, shattering her
previous record of 10-shots vs. Yeshiva (Sept. 11, 2008) and CCNY
(Nov. 1, 2008) last season.
For Mount Saint Vincent, freshman keeper Michelle Miller
(Chester, PA) stopped 22 shots.
Old Westbury outshot Mount Saint Vincent in each period and 52-1
for the match. Old Westbury put up 25 shots in the first
period and tallied 27 more in the second stanza. Old Westbury
also won the corners battle with 18 total corners taken and were
called off sides 10 times.
