Box Score BROOKLN, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team outscored the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays 47-25 in the second half to extend their win streak to six with an 80-58 Skyline Conference victory on the road Tuesday evening in Brooklyn. The win brought Old Westbury's record to 11-4 overall and 9-1 in conference action while NYU-Poly dropped to 3-11 and 1-8, respectively.
The teams traded baskets for the opening five minutes as the Panthers held a slight lead, 12-7 at the 13:41 mark. Anthony Motolla added seven of the next 11 points for NYU-Poly to take an 18-13 advantage. With NYU-Poly up just 18-13 with just over nine minutes to play, senior
Kristopher Afum (Bronx, NY) rallied Old Westbury with nine (4-of-7 FG) of the teams next 20-points to knot the game at 33 all to head into the lock room.
The second half opened with a 14-0 Panther run as junior
Lester Prosper (Bellmore, NY) scored nine of his 18 points in the opening 5:59 off the half, giving Old Westbury a 47-33 lead. Anthony Motolla connected on a jumped to cut the deficit down to 13 with 4:26 left on the clock. Old Westbury allowed a season-high for Anthony Motolla poured in 33 points on 12-of-21 shooting from inside the arc to go with eight boards and two steals to lead the Fighting Blue Jays. Jason Buckner added 11 points and Jason Samuels had eight rebounds (five offensive).
For the game, The Panthers shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) as 11 of the 13 players who saw time registered a bucket. Old Westbury shot 25 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 75 percent (21-of-28) from the foul line. The Green and Ivory defense was back on their game in the second half as NYU-Poly shot just 27.6 percent (8-of-29) and finished the game at 35.7 percent, 20 percent from downtown and 71.4 percent from the stripe. The Panthers converted 19 points off the Fighting Blue Jays 15 turnovers and allowed only six points in the paint. Old Westbury also won the boards battle, holding a 39-32 advantage, including 18-14 off the offensive glass.
