www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-15, 25-13) proved to be too much for the visiting Purchase Panthers Wednesday evening as the OW Panthers grabbed a 3-1 (25, 21, 17-25, 25-15, 25-13) Skyline Conference victory in the “Battle of the Panthers” on Senior Day at the Clark Athletic Center. The Old Westbury Panthers improve to 21-8 overall on the season and 8-2 in conference action while Purchase falls to 7-12 and 3-7, respectively.
Senior member Tanya Vinson was recognized prior to the match as Old Westbury showed appreciation for her two years of dedication to Old Westbury Athletics. Head Coach Marjahna Segers was also honored for her 100th career victory that was accomplished on October 3rd in a 3-0 sweep over the Medgar Evers Cougars.
Kristina Giordano led Old Westbury with her 12th double-double of the season (17th Career) while
Tynisha George paced OW with 10 kills followed by
Tanaya Vinson, who added eight and hit .533. Girodano set 18 assists and scooped up 11 digs to combine for the double-double and
Tonya Miller added four solo blocks and three blocking assists to go with six digs and four kills.
Kimberly Catania chipped in with seven assists and five digs while
Ashley Greene served up five aces to lead the way for Old Westbury.
HUNTER INVITATIONAL UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 30) for day one of the Hunter Invitational and will take on the Elmira Soaring Eagles (9 a.m.) followed by the Montclair State Red Hawks (11 a.m.) at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, New York.
