THROGGS NECK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball tenth year head coach Bernard Tomlin became the program's all-time leader in victories on Sunday at Maritime. The win for Tomlin surpassed the 146 victories accumulated by Howard Furman from 1980-88. Three Panthers put on a second-half show with 12 points each after the intermission to lead Old Westbury to a 65-57 win over the Maritime Privateers in Throggs Neck, New York. OW improves to 5-9 on the season and 4-5 in conference play. Maritime slipped to 5-9 overall and 3-6 against the Skyline Conference.

With a 147-112 record overall since coming to Old Westbury in 2001, Tomlin has a .567 winning percentage. Entering the 2010-11 season, the 2009-10 Old Westbury team coached by Tomlin owns his best single –season wins record with its 21-8 record. The 2003-04 Panthers took home the Skyline Conference Championship and made the program's first NCAA tournament appearance with a 19-9 mark. Tomlin's Panthers have advanced to the Skyline Conference championship game in two of the last four seasons.

Coach Tomlin would have preferred a cleaner win for the milestone, but the Panthers got it done after trailing 34-24 at halftime. Maritime jumped out to an early 5-0 run and went up by seven on a three-pointer by Andrew Geisel to go up 15-8 with 13:07 remaining on the first-half clock. Moments later, Paul Suarino canned a trey to give Maritime its first double-digit lead (18-8). Mike McSloy drained a three-ball for the Privateers largest lead of the game with a 13 point advantage.

The Privateers led by 10 at the half, but Old Westbury outscored Maritime 41-23 in the second half as Frantz Granjean, Jamal Little and Lester Prosper dropped in 12 points each in the final 20 minutes. OW got off to an 18-8 run to start the second-half on a jumper by Frantz Grantjean at 13:37 to knot the game at 42 all. Lester Prosper and Jamal Little combined to score the next eight points for Old Westbury to grab a four point lead (50-46) with 10:17 on the clock. Prosper's hit a pair of free-throws at 5:08 to tie the game at 56 and Granjean's jumped 46 seconds later gave OW the lead for good. Old Westbury opened its largest lead of the game at 64-56 with just 28 seconds to play in the contest when Jamal Little drained back-to-back from the line.

OW's Frantz Granjean scored 24 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field in the record-setting victory. Granjean pulled down eight rebounds while frontcourt mate Lester Prosper registered his 11th double-double of the season, combining 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five swats. Jamal Little contributed 17 points and Tymel Ambrose and Jefferson Guillaume added five and four assists, respectively. Scott Arias nabbed a team-best two steals in addition to five points and five rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.

Maritime shot their best ball in the first half as the Privateers made 45.2 percent from the field and were 5-of-12 from downtown, while Old Westbury shots 36.7 percent and landed 2-of-7 from three-point land.  The Panthers sank 50 percent in the second half to finish the game at 43.3 percent, compared to 36.9 percent for the home team. OW was 9-for-11 from the charity stripe compared to 3-of-4 for Maritime.  The Panthers owned a 45-33 advantage on the boards but committed 15 turnovers to Maritime's 10. OW converted 12 second-chance points off of 10 offensive rebounds on the night.
