OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team suffered their fifth straight loss as they fell to the Farmingdale State Rams in overtime, 87-85, on Thursday night at the Clark Athletic Center. OW now stands at 2-8 overall and 1-4 in conference action while the Rams improve to 6-5 and 5-1, respectively.
Farmingdale State scored first and Old Westbury quickly tied the game on a jumper by Frantz Granjean. OW's
Andre Martin sank a pair of free-throws to tie the game at 12-12 with 12:17 remaining. Farmingdale State responded with a 9-3 run to take a 21-15 lead. OW quickly tied the game for the seventh time off a three-pointer by
Jamal Little to knot the game at 21 all. The Panthers outscored Farmingdale State 14-11 to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room.
The teams played even through the second half as neither team was able to pull away. OW led by as many as eight points (71-63) with 6:06 remaining. Farmingdale State countered with a 13-5 run to take a 76-74 lead on a three-pointer by Dyshaun Flournoy with 2:53 remaining.
Frantz Granjean sank one of two from OW's line to knot the game at 79. Farmingdale State's Keith Nanden's layup was blocked by
Lester Prosper as time expired.
In overtime, the momentum continued on the side of Farmingdale State as they scored first and closed out the extra frame on a 4-1 run to secure the victory.
Four Panthers finished the night in double-figures led by
Frantz Granjean. He recorded his fifth double-double with 29 points, 17 rebounds and three steals.
Lester Prosper finished the game one block shy of posting his second career triple-double, combining 21 points, 19 rebounds (10 offensive) and nine blocks to register his eighth of the season.
Jamal Little followed with 12 points and nine rebounds and
Jefferson Guillaume added 10 points, six rebounds (5 offensive).
Tymel Ambrose contributed six rebounds and four assists.
Dyshaun Flournoy recorded a team-high 24 points and three assists to lead Farmingdale State. Josh Smith totaled 18 points and five assists while Keith Nandin had nine points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Old Westbury was 26-for-72 (36.1%) from the field and 2-for-14 from beyond that arc (14.3%). Farmingdale State shot 33-for-73 from the floor (45.2%) landed 7-of-21 from beyond the arc (33.3%). OW outrebounded the Rams, 61-29, including 26-12 off the offensive glass resulting in 35 points. Meanwhile, Farmingdale State forced OW into committing 24 turnovers, translating into 25 Ram points off turnovers.
