PURCHASE, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team fell 92-89 on the road Saturday afternoon to Skyline Conference foe, Purchase Panthers. The win for Purchase completes the regular season sweep over Old Westbury after OW took the previous three sweeps. Old Westbury now sits at 9-13 on the season and 8-9 against the Skyline Conference while Purchase improves to 19-4 and 15-3, respectively.

Old Westbury got off to an aggressive start as four different Panthers scored to give OW an early 10-2 lead. Purchase responded with a 20-0 run from 17:53 to 13:37 to take a 22-10 lead. Lester Prosper's jumper at 13:09 started a 23-15 run from 13:09 to 2:52 capped on a pair of free-throws by Andre Martin. Purchase went on a 10-4 run over the final 1:52 to hold a 47-37 half time lead.

Things got worse before they better for Old Westbury in the second half. Purchase used a 14-4 run out of the second half gates to extend its lead to 20 points (61-41) at the 17:13 mark. Trailing by 20 with 17:13 to play, Old Westbury trimmed the three in the final seconds but couldn't get over the hump. Old Westbury chipped away at the deficit and outscored Purchase 48-31 over the final 17:02.

Lester Prosper scored a career-high 39 points on 17-of-24 shooting from the field to go along with 12 rebounds to notch his 15th double-double of the season. He added two blocked shots in 32 minutes of court time. Jamal Little followed with 17 points and Matthew Duffy scored 14 in addition to eight rebounds and four assists. Andre Martin chipped in with eight points and two boards off the bench. Tymel Ambrose and Frantz Granjean both distributed a squad high five assists.

Purchase finished with four players scoring in double-digits as Michael McNair came off the bench to register 24 points. Marvin Billups added 23 to complement 20 and 17-point performances by Corey Orgias and Charles Thompson. Angel Gonzalez and Justin Walters each dished out five assists.

In the end, turnovers proved to be the difference as Purchase pressured Old Westbury into committing 18 giveaways, resulting in 30 points for the home team. Old Westbury scored just nine points off 11 Purchase turnovers. Old Westbury outshot Purchase, 54.7 percent (35-64) from the field to 49.3 percent (33-67). Purchase hit 9-of-21 from three-point territory while Old Westbury landed 6-of-20. Old Westbury connected on 92.9 percent (13-14) from the free-throw line and Purchase sank 17-of-21 (81 percent). Old Westbury won the boards battle, 35-27, including a 10-9 advantage off the offensive glass.

ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Monday (Feb. 14), taking on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in a Skyline Conference battle in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
