Panther men win six events and women take five

GARDEN CITY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury swimming teams were swept by the Adelphi Panthers in a dual meet Monday evening at Woodruff Hall in Garden City, New York.  The Panthers men (1-3) were overtaken 48-45 and the women (1-5) 49-37.

The men won six events out of 11, led by Bryan Woodhead.  Woodhead won the 50 freestyle (22.50) and 100 backstroke (1:05.54) events while teaming up with Carl Nowicki, Cameron Russo and Ricky Damiano to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.43.  The Panther men also earned wins in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle.  Cameron Russo won the 200 IM (2:21.21), Rashaad Bryan the 100 breaststroke (1:13.65) and Ricky Damiano in the 500 freestyle (5:54.05).

The Panther women placed first in five out of 11 events, paced by victories in the 50 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle relay events.  Lydia Coleman won the 50 freestyle (28.24), Hayley McGinn the 500 freestyle (8:01.27), Rachel Heath the 100 backstroke (1:19.71) and Melanie Barone in the 100 breaststroke (1:32.20).  Barone, Heath, McGinn and Coleman combined to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:10.58.  

STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury swim teams returns to the pool on Wednesday (Dec. 12) in Staten Island, New York for a showdown with the Staten Island Dolphins.  Race time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
