Men’s Swimming victorious at home over Purchase

Old Westbury is back in the pool Monday (Nov. 25) for a tri-meet with Queensborough and John Jay

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming hosted the Purchase College Panthers and the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears Friday evening from Clark Athletic Center. On the men's side, Old Westbury (M: 1-8, 1-4 Skyline / W: 0-13, 0-7 Skyline) claimed its first win of the season over Purchase (M: 2-5, 1-2 Skyline / W: 3-6, 2-3 Skyline) with a final score of 88-75 while the women suffered a 92-55 setback to Purchase and a 115-44 loss to the Bears (W: 4-6, 2-2 Skyline).

Daniel McCartney led the men's squad with victories in the 200-yard IM (2:18.94) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.67). Joseph Malone followed with first-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:54.16) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.14). Austin Young chipped in with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.14). Alberto Matsuura also touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (1:08.68) while finishing third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:42.34). Alejandro Ruiz-Soto placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:13.41) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (31.05). Daniel Grinchenko finished the 500-yard freestyle race in a time of 8:10.31 for fourth place. Elijah Lee finished in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle (32.91) and 100-yard freestyle (1:30.67). Tilyk Bonner competed in the 50-yard freestyle (35.86).

The 200-yard medley squad of Young, McCartney, Malone and Grinchenko captured victory in a time of 1:56.47. To conclude the meet, Grinchenko, Matsuura, Ruiz-Soto and Young combined to place first in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:53.53.

Leading the way on the women's side was Mia Hidalgo, who touched the wall second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.34) and placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (7:15.87). Adelyn Veras followed by placing second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:27.90) and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:25.37). Dina Terki placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (3:15.05) while Magan Blige finished in fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle (35.74) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:26.18). Rebecca Warshauer placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (39.28) and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:39.29) as Diana Castellanos finished in sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (10:59.61). Angelica Galletti (45.75) and Brianna Williams (51.46) both competed in the 50-yard freestyle.

Terki, Hidalgo, Veras and Castellanos opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley (2:34.07) as Blige, Terki, Castellanos and Warshauer finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:30.38 to close out the meet.
