Swimming competes against Brooklyn in regular-season finale on Senior Day

Old Westbury returns to the pool on January 25 for day one of the 2020 Skyline Conference Championships (Jan. 25-26) to compete in the Skyline Conference Championship

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's and women's swimming closed out their regular season Wednesday evening with a non-conference Toys For Tots Senior Day dual meet against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (M: 4-0 / W: 2-2) inside Clark Athletic Center. The Panther men (2-11) suffered a 145-50 setback while the Panther women (1-19) fell by a final score of 114-52.

Prior to the start of the meet, seniors Lorenzo Cusumano (2016-17, 2019-20), Angelica Galletti (2019-20), Elijah Lee (2016-17, 2019-20), Alberto Matsuura (2018-20), Daniel McCartney (2019-20), Alejandro Ruiz-Soto (2019-20), Rebecca Warshauer (2019-20), and Austin Young (2018-20)

Leading the way on the men's side was Joseph Malone, who captured victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.94) and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.24). McCartney touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.10) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (58.29). Young followed with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:33.87). Timothy Probst placed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (16:03.66). Cusumano placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (3:03.81) and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:19.16). Tilyk Bonner placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (33.41) while Ruiz-Soto finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:31.13) and competed in the 100-yard freestyle (1:12.91). Daniel Grinchenko (200-yard backstroke, 3:06.59) and Matsuura (100-yard freestyle, 1:16.97) both placed fifth in their respective races. Jassell Mateo placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (35.19) and competed in the 100-yard freestyle (1:19.31). Lee competed in the 50-yard freestyle (32.06) and in the 100-freestyle (1:15.18).

The 200-yard medley relay squad of Grinchenko, Mateo, Probst and Matsuura placed second (2:22.03) to open the meet. To conclude the meet, Malone, Grinchenko, Young and combined to finish in second-place in a time of 3:55.44 as Probst, Cusumanno, Lee and Matsuura sat in fourth place with a time of 4:49.69.

On the women's side, Mia Hidalgo placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:53.56) and in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:03.90). Amy Arias-Torres placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (3:17.21). Diana Castellanos placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (22.16.17) and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:32.09). Warshauer placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (39.54) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:36.25). Magan Blige placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (35.97) and in the 100-yard freestyle (1:26.34). Dina Terki placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (8:43.16). Adelyn Veras placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (3:07.44) while Yvette Domond placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (1:47.44). Galletti competed in the 50-yard freestyle (43.10) and in the 100-yard freestyle (1:42.97). Domanaye Newman competed in the 50-yard freestyle (46.02).

Terki, Hidalgo, Veras and Arias-Torres opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (2:31.00) as Blige, Castellanos, Warshauer and Terki finished in second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (6:02.85) to close out the meet.
