Panther swimmers wrap up calendar year with tough road loss

STATEN ISLAND, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's and women's swim teams fell in a dual meet at Staten Island on Wednesday evening from the Sports & Recreation Center in Staten Island, New York.  The Panther men dropped a 104-95 decision, while the Old Westbury women lost 151-70.  With the loss, the Old Westbury men fall to 1-4 on the season, and the women are now 1-6.  With the wins, the Staten Island men improve to 1-2 on the season and the women are now 5-0.   

Despite the outcome, Old Westbury delivered several solid performances in the pool.  On the men's side, Rashaad Bryan, Cameron Russo and Bryan Woodhead each racked up a pair of victories.  Individually, Bryan took the 200 freestyle (2:03.88), Russo the 100 freestyle (54.29) and Woodhead the 500 freestyle (21.72).  Bryan, Russo and Woodhead teamed up with Ricky Damiano in to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:26.55.  Old Westbury also opened the meet with a first place finish by Tim Rice, Zach Abatelli, Kareem Bryan and Mike Bayne in the 200 medley relay race in 2:03.47.  Damiano placed second in the 1,000 freestyle race, posting a career-best finish time of 12.20.00.

On the women's side, Lydia Coleman paced Old Westbury to a pair of individual victories in the 50 freestyle (27.13) and 100 freestyle (1:00.62) events.  Coleman also combined with Janet Marmol, Rachel Heath and Hayley McGinn to capture the 200 freestyle relay in 2:01.20.  Marmol also grabbed the wall in 2:37.50 to win the 200 IM.

BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury swim teams returns to the pool on Friday (Jan. 11) in Old Westbury, New York for a home opening showdown with the Brooklyn Bulldogs.  Race time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center Pool.
