Panther women tally seven wins to grab first win of season as men suffer second straight loss

BRONX, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's and women's swim teams took on the Lehman Lightning Tuesday evening in non-conference road action from the APEX Aquatics Center.  The women put on an impressive display, taking a 102-77 meet victory, while the men struggled falling to the Lightning 153-80.

Once again, Lydia Coleman and Janet Marmol led the way for the Panther women (1-2), combining for five of Old Westbury's seven wins.  Coleman was victorious in both the 100 freestyle (1:01.50) and 200 freestyle (2:20.12) races while Marmol captured victories in the 200 IM (2:43.91) and 500 freestyle (6:30.10) events.  Marmol and Coleman teamed up with Gabriella Sparaco and Larissa Kavitsky to close out the final race with a time of 2:00.39 to win the 200 freestyle relay.  Kavitsky earned first-place honors in the 50 freestyle in 31.93 in addition to combining with Christina Nelson, Melanie Barone and Zabdi Loman to finish first in the 200 medley relay in 2:40.48.

The Panther men (1-2) dropped their second consecutive dual meet despite some solid swimming.  The Panthers won four events, including a pair of victories by Bryan Woodhead in the 50 freestyle (22.02) and 100 backstroke (55.95) events.  The Panthers also got impressive performances from Rashaad Bryan and Thomas Mauro.  Bryan took first in the 200 IM after touching the wall in 2:24.13 while Mauro showed off his talents on the diving board against Lehman in the 1 meter dive, accruing 143.25 points on the 1 meter board. 

ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES AND ST. JOSEPH'S-BROOKLYN BEARS UP NEXT FOR WOMEN'S SWIMMING: Old Westbury returns to the pool on Friday (Dec. 7) in Patchogue, New York for a showdown with the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears.  Race time is scheduled for 3 p.m. from the Danzi Center.
