www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team closed out their regular season schedule with an 85-57 Skyline Conference road win over the Maritime Privateers on Saturday afternoon in Throggs Neck, New York. Old Westbury improves to 13-12 on the season and 10-8 in conference play while Maritime fell to 2-23 and 2-16, respectively.
Rashawn McCarthy broke the scoring ice with a three-pointer that gave Old Westbury the lead for good, just 19 seconds into the contest.
Kerel Mitchell dropped in a layup at the 15:24 mark to extend Old Westbury's lead to double-digits, 15-5. Old Westbury used an 11-0 run from 13:57 to 10:39 to take a 21 point advantage off a
Jamal Little jumper to make it a 28-7 lead. Maritime chipped away at the deficit, moving as close as 12 with 3:07. Old Westbury closed out the remaining 2:16 with an 8-2 run to take a 42-24 lead into the break.
Old Westbury held a double-digit lead the entire second-half and scored the final nine points of the game to take a 28 point lead, their margin of the game.
Rashawn McCarthy led all scorers with a career-high 21points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor.
Tevon McNair followed with his 11th double-double of the season, posting 20 points (8-13 FG) and a personal-best 23 rebounds.
Kerel Mitchell poured in 16 points to go along with six assists and three steals while
Jamal Little hit for 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
Omari Trebuse dished out seven assists and nabbed two steals.
Mike McSloy scored a team-best 20 points and handed out five assists for Maritime. Sam Porte contributed 17 points and nine rebounds while Jack Cole added 10 points.
Old Westbury outshot Maritime from the field 55.9 percent (33-59) to 36.7 percent (22-60). Old Westbury connected on 6-of-19 from three-point land while Maritime went 4-of-21. Old Westbury knocked down 13-of-17 from the free-throw line while Maritime went 9--of-18. Old Westbury held a 43-28 rebounding advantage, turning 11 offensive boards into 11 second chance points. Old Westbury converted 15 Privateer turnovers into 23 points.
