OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) -The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team held a 16 point half time lead and earned a 76-60 Skyline Conference win over the visiting Farmingdale State Rams on Thursday evening from the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury (15-3) wins for the fifth straight game and improved to 10-0 in conference action while Farmingdale State (12-5) dropped to 9-2.
Old Westbury broke the scoring ice with a
Tyrik Tucker three-point play 80 seconds into the game. Farmingdale State answered with a Curtis Williams three-point and a layup by Leo Osonwune to take a 5-3 advantage, their only lead of the game. Old Westbury used an 11-0 run to go up 14-5 with 12:09 remaining. After Farmingdale State cut the deficit to four, Old Westbury put together a 20-8 run over the final 5:18 to take a 42-26 lead into the half.
Old Westbury's half time lead proved to be the difference as both teams drew even in the second half scoring department. With 14:34 showing on the clock Old Westbury took their largest lead of the game as Tucker connected on a triple to put Old Westbury up by 19 points (51-32). Farmingdale State's comeback attempt fell short when they put together a 10-5 run from 4:12 to 1:53 to pull within 11 points, 71-60. Farmingdale State missed their last three shots over the final 1:36 as Old Westbury scored the final five points of the game to take a 76-60 win.
Kerel Mitchell drained six triples and finished with a game high 20 points to lead Old Westbury.
Tyrik Tucker recorded 16 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Josh Hill and
Darnell Chavis sparked Old Westbury off the bench with 15 points and 13 rebounds, respectively while Chavis had three blocks and three steals.
Curtis Williams scored 12 points and blocked three shots to pace Farmingdale State. Donald Lawes chipped in with 10 rebounds and Ryan Davis dished out six assists.
Old Westbury shot a season low 32.4 percent from the field (23-71) while draining 32.1 percent from three point range (9-28) and 77.8 percent from the free throw line (21-27). Farmingdale State connected on 31 percent from the floor (22-71), 16.7 percent from beyond the arc (5-30) and 64.7 percent from the charity stripe (11-17). Farmingdale State won the boards battle, 49-43, and Old Westbury scored 13 second chance points off 15 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury scored 18 points off 18 Farmingdale State turnovers.
