Adan Cruz-Velasquez's early hat-trick propels Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team defeated the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons 11-0 Sunday afternoon at Panther Park, in what was the Panthers' final home game of the regular season.

Adan Cruz-Velasquez recorded his team leading 10th, 11th, and 12th goals of the season in the match's opening 25 minutes. In between, Kevin Skaalerud scored his second goal of the season, and the two's quartet of goals put the Panthers firmly in the lead early.

Finishing up the scoring in the first half were Scott Carey (37th min.), Chris Knox (43rd min.) and Peter Sicardi (45th min.). The tally for Sicardi, who is the Panthers' back-up keeper, was the first of his career.

The second half featured more of the same, as the Panthers roared on. Craig Mannhart, Kosi Ikwuazom, Jorge Rodriguez and Bryan Bolivar scored their first goals of the season in the 51st, 56th, 64th and 66th minutes respectively. For Mannhart and Rogriguez it was their first career Old Westbury goals.

Bolivar, Carey and Knox also dished out a combined seven assists; three belonged to Knox and Carey and Bolivar added two of their own.

The Panthers outshot the Gryphons by a count of 38- 1 (23-0 on target), and despite keeper Marcelo Guardado not being forced to make a single save, the senior recorded his sixth cleansheet of the season, which is a San Filippo-era record.

The Panthers now improve to 9-6-2 on the season, while the Gryphons drop their tenth loss of the season and fall to 3-10.

PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action for a Skyline Conference matchup on Thursday (Oct. 24), when they visit the Purchase Panthers. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m in Purchase, New York.
