OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers swimming teams hosted the visiting Purchase Panthers Tuesday evening for a Skyline Conference "Battle of the SUNY Panthers" clash from the Clark Athletic Center. Purchase defeated Old Westbury on both the men's side, 112-80, and women's side, 120-74.
Reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week
Sandi Woodhead continued her dominance in the pool, capturing first place honors in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:38.18), 50-yard freestyle (27.51) and 100-yard butterfly (1:08.64) races. Woodhead has won all 12 races to start her collegiate career.
Jessie O'Hagan swam to a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.81.
Larissa Kavitsky (31.37),
Rachel Heath (32.13),
Hayley McGinn (31.80) and O'Hagan (28.37) finished second and set a season best time of 2:03.67 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the 200-yard medley relay event, the squad of Heath (39.09),
Melanie Barone (40.84),
Tatianna Pizarro (34.00) and McGinn (31.18) teamed up to set a season best time with a third place finish in 2:24.11.
On the men's side,
Bryan Woodhead paced with a pair of individual victories in addition to swimming 21.99 in the 200-yard freestyle relay with
Tim Rice (25.79),
Kareem Bryan (24.32) and
Cameron Russo (24.12) to win the event with a season best time of 1:36.22.
Woodhead also set a team best time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.67) while also touching the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.96). Russo added a pair of second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (23.72) and 100-yard freestyle (53.11) competitions.
Justin Chu set a team best time in the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:08.86 and
Takis Kellarakos claimed second place with a 6:28.60 500-yard freestyle time.
Also setting Old Westbury's season best times were
Tyler Carelli in the 1,000-yard freestyle (14:19.89, 3rd place) and Rice in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.30, 3rd place).
Thomas Mauro (30.81),
Santino Patrizi (32.49), Chu (27.47) and Kallarakas (25.08) combined for a second place finish with a time of 1:55.85 in the 200-yard medley relay.
ST. JOSEPH'S-BROOKLYN BEARS, NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The women's swimming team return to the pool on Tuesday (Dec. 3) for a non-confernce battle with the visiting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears and New Rochelle Blue Angels. First race is set for 6 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
