BRONX, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's and women's swimming teams competed at the three-day ECAC Pre-Season Championships (December 6-8) at Lehman College's APEX Swimming Pool. The men tallied 178 points and placed 12th of 14 in team competition while the women racked up 102 points to finish 15th of 17.
Stevens Institute of Technology captured the men's championship with 1,741 points and the NYU finished with 1,650.5 points to claim the women's championship.
On the men's side, Bryan Woodhead paced the Panthers with 43 individual points, in addition to contributing to all four relay scoring events. Old Westbury posted season-best relay times in the 200-medley relay (1:44.90, 11th place-Woodhead, Justin Chu, Kareem Bryan, Cameron Russo), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.60, 12th place-Woodhead, Bryan, Tim Rice, Russo), 400-yard medley relay (4:02.52, 9th place-Woodhead, Chu, Bryan, Russo) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:34.24, 11th place-Woodhead, Bryan, Chu, Russo). Woodhead set Old Westbury's season best times in the 100-yard freestyle (48.19, 13th place) and 100-yard butterfly (53.91, 19th place) events while Chu recorded program best-times on the season in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.92, 24th place) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.26, 26th place) races. Takis Kellarakas also swam a season-best time in the 200 freestyle with a 49th place finish in 2:10.08.  Â
The Panther women scored and set season-best times in the 200-yard medley relay (2:15.19, 16th place-Jessie O'Hagan, Melanie Barone, Sandi Woodhead, Hayley McGinn), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:59.87, 16th place-Woodhead, McGinn, Larissa Kavitsky, O'Hagan), 400-yard medley relay (5:03.01, 12th place-O'Hagan, Barone, Woodhead, Rachel Heath) and 400-yard freestyle relay (4:32.92, 13th place-Woodhead, McGinn, Heath, O'Hagan). Individually, Old Westbury also set season-best times by Woodhead (100-yard freestyle, 1:00.74, 54th place), O'Hagan (200-yard backstroke, 2:33.97, 29th place) and Barone (200-yard breaststroke, 3:14.89, 39th place).Â
