OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team lost game one of a non-conference doubleheader by the count of 3-2 to the visiting Western Connecticut Colonials before a heavy snow fall halted game two on Saturday afternoon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury now stands at 3-4 on the season while Western Connecticut improved to 2-1.

Western Connecticut jumped ahead with a quick two run lead at the end of one as Jeff John reached base on a leadoff single to open the game.  He advanced over to second on a balk by Old Westbury starter Arismendy Nunez and moved to third off a Bobby Coyne bunt single.  Conor Bierfeldt then broke the scoring ice with a sacrifice fly to score John.  Two batters later, Bill Eannotti singled while an error by left fielder Paul Valerio allowed Coyne to score an unearned run, making it 2-0.

Old Westbury threatened in the bottom of the second, with Jonathan Pagan and John Angelino both reaching on singles.  With one out, Pagan was positioned at third and Angelino on second.  Western Connecticut starter Chris Alberto got out of the jam when Pagan was called out due to interference for out number two and caught Jacob Coners looking at a called third strike to escape out of the inning.

Western Connecticut sparked a two out rally with three straight singles, including a run scoring single by John to make it a 3-0 game in the fourth.

Old Westbury answered in the seventh with four singles to score two runs.  With one out, Kevin Licul, Angelino and Coners hit consecutive singles; while Coners drove home Licul for Old Westbury's first run.  Pinch hitter Peter Romeo then stepped to the plate, delivering Old Westbury's fourth straight single that scored Angelino.  Following a line out to right field by Eddie Hernandez, Coners and Romeo advanced to second and third by pulling off a double steal.  Paul Valerio drew a walk to load the bases for Jeremy Delgado, who Alberto induced a fly out to right field to end the game.

Arismendy Nunez (1-2) was dealt Old Westbury's loss after fanning four batters over seven innings while giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits.  Chris Alberto went the distance to improve to 2-0 on the season, serving up two runs on six this and two free passes while striking out three.

John Angelino finished the day hitting 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles, one run scored and a stolen bases to lead Old Westbury offensively.  Western Connecticut's Jeff John collected three hits including a double, the lone extra base hit on the day.  Bobby Coyne followed with two hits and one stolen base.

Western Connecticut held a 9-7 edge in hits while Old Westbury won the battle on the base path with a 3-1 stolen base advantage.
