OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team set a program record with its 301st strikeout of the season in Tuesday's regular season finale 6-4 setback at home to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (20-11-1).

Braylin Perez recorded his second strikeout of the fifth inning for Old Westbury's 297th strikeout of the season, breaking the record set by the 2012 squad.  Four Panther pitchers combined to register nine strikeouts to push Old Westbury's season total up to 301.

Old Westbury (18-20) will play host May 2-4 as the top-seed in the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship Tournament, taking on the winner of Wednesday's No. 5 Maritime at No. 4 St. Joseph's (L.I.) Friday at 4 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.

Jacob Conors led off the bottom of the first for Old Westbury with a single ripped through the left side.  Conors then stole second base, advanced to third on a balk by starter Jeff Wright before Jonathan Pagan looped an RBI double down the left field line to drive in the Panthers' initial run. Pagan followed suit by stealing third in which a throwing error by Mariner catcher Jacob Wood put the Panthers ahead 2-0.

Panther started Christopher Vitale got off to a fast start, retiring his first six batters before running into trouble in the third inning.  USMMA led off the frame with back-to-back singles, and a sacrifice bunt by Daniel Pino moved runners into scoring position.  Vitale then uncorked a wild pitch that scored Richard Kernan for the Mariners' first run.

The Mariners added a pair of runs in the fourth to go up 3-2 with back-to-back RBI singles.

USMMA took a 6-2 lead in the seventh with three unearned runs off Panther reliever Perez.

In the eighth, Jonathan Pagan banged out a two-run double to make it a 6-4 game to close out the scoring.

Vitale (0-4) was pinned with Old Westbury's loss after allowing three runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work.  Vitale fanned two batters before Perez took over for the next 3.1 innings, striking out four while giving up three unearned runs on three hits and one walk.  James Scagnelli tossed a scoreless eighth while Alex DiSanto registered three strikeouts in a one-two-three ninth inning.

John Angelino collected a trio of singles to register his 10th multi-hit game of the season while Pagan produced his 13th multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate to go along with three RBIs, one run scored and a stolen base.  Coners' (1-4, R, BB, SB) leadoff single extended his hitting streak to nine games while Angelino hit safely in eight straight.

Kernan (2-4, RBI, R) and Wood (2-4, R) paced the Mariners with two hits apiece.

Wright (2-0) worked three innings and allowed two runs (one earned) to snag USMMA's victory.  Cameron Stadele faced five batters in the ninth to record his third save of the season.
