Old Westbury’s women’s basketball team volunteered in the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition 5K Run/Walk event at Belmont Lake State Park on September 26

NORTH BABYLON, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) The SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball team volunteered at the ninth annual National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer at Belmont Lake State Park on September 26.

The 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer is the largest fundraiser and awareness event for the NOCC. As of press time, the event raised over $120,000. In 2014, the NOCC Long Island Chapter raised close to $100,000 to further NOCC's mission. This awareness raising event celebrates Ovarian Cancer survivors, and remembers those that were lost to the disease.

"We are always trying to instill the concept of giving back to the community," said SUNY Old Westbury head women's basketball coach Michael Krasnoff. "Our team performed at a high level and we anticipate a return to this banner event next year."

The Panther coaching staff and student-athletes helped the event organizers with operations within the registration tents. The team assisted the NOCC with registration and donations in addition to distributing event t-shirts and official race tags to the 700-plus participants.

Krasnoff and assistant coach Lynda Day, along with Old Westbury women's basketball team members Tori Bellings, Alexis Hart, Olivia Ilardi, Paige Jelenic, Monique Joseph, Keva Knox, Imani Lariosa, Alexis Lopez, Jasley Mejia, Antoinette Metoyer, Raven Pentz, Jasmine Robinson and Danielle Waithe participated in the event.
