OLD WESTBURY, NY --- 
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury Department of Athletics hosted its 2017 Senior Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on Monday (April 17) evening on campus at the Student Union, and the department's eight highest honors were awarded during the 2016-17 year-end celebration.

Lenore J. Walsh, Director of Athletics, emceed the banquet and presented the seniors with Old Westbury folios to all senior student-athletes.  A video compilation highlighting the success of each senior student-athlete was shown throughout the celebration.

Female Student-Athlete: Sara Bey (Women's Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming)
This award is bestowed upon the Old Westbury female student-athlete who best exemplifies the true meaning of a collegiate student-athlete. Throughout Bey's collegiate career, she has demonstrated high ideals of athleticism, sportsmanship, qualities of cooperation, courage, unselfishness, self-control and desire for a clean and productive life style with the highest respect for discipline and authority. Old Westbury athletics applauds Bey for her diligence, diplomacy and devotion to college athletics.

Male Student-Athlete: Stephon Odle (Men's Basketball)
This award is bestowed upon the Old Westbury male student-athlete who best exemplifies the true meaning of a collegiate student-athlete. Throughout Odle's collegiate career, he has demonstrated high ideals of athleticism, sportsmanship, qualities of cooperation, courage, unselfishness, self-control and desire for a clean and productive life style with the highest respect for discipline and authority. Old Westbury athletics applauds Odle for his diligence, diplomacy and devotion to college athletics.

Female Outstanding Athlete: Jasmine Robinson (Women's Basketball)
This award is bestowed upon the athlete who best demonstrates outstanding athletic excellence in the course of her athletic career.   Throughout Robinson's tenure at Old Westbury, she has diligently labored to achieve her highest athletic potential. Robinson reached the athletic summit and richly deserved this honor.  The Old Westbury community greatly appreciates Robinson for her due diligence and commitment to excellence.

Male Outstanding Athlete: Tommy Ziegen (Baseball)
This award is bestowed upon the athlete who best demonstrates outstanding athletic excellence in the course of his athletic career.   Throughout Ziegen's tenure at Old Westbury, he has diligently labored to achieve his highest athletic potential. Ziegen reached the athletic summit and richly deserved this honor.  The Old Westbury community greatly appreciates Ziegen for his due diligence and commitment to excellence.

Roarin' Panther Award: Divine Nisbeth (Men's Cross Country)
The Old Westbury Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Roarin' Panther Award is presented to a current student-athlete who exemplifies the true meaning of the student-athlete experience. Nisbeth understood and appreciated the opportunity to be a student-athlete.  Nisbeth was a major contributor to the overall success of Old Westbury athletics and recreation.  Nisbeth provided positive support at Old Westbury's contests and functions, and is an active member in the planning and implementation of athletic programming, and is a positive and caring role model for all members of the Old Westbury community.  Nisbeth's behavior demonstrated a strong will to be a major contributor to the improvement of Old Westbury athletics, thereby inspiring others to do the same.

Coaching Staff of the Year: Lauren Schneider (Women's Lacrosse)
The Coaching Staff of the Year award has little to do with win/loss record – and much to do with – communication with athletic department personnel (sports information, compliance, athletic training, equipment, facilities), completion of paperwork (receipts, etc.), commitment to academic integrity of your student- athletes and behavioral issues with your student-athletes, etc. Women's Lacrosse was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year as decided by the athletic administration with no coaching duties.

SACC Faculty Appreciation Award: Dr. Bright Emenike (Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Physics
Bestowed annually by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to a faculty member of the SUNY Old Westbury Community whose contributions have exceeded the normal duties associated with being a faculty member. Assistant Professor Dr. Emenike has positively impacted the lives of student-athletes through quality teaching commitment to excellence and social enhancement.

Paws Up Award: Dr. Wayne Edwards (Vice President for Student Affairs /Chief Diversity Officer)
Bestowed upon a staff member of the SUNY Old Westbury Community, the Paws Up Award recognizes Dr. Edwards' efforts in supporting and advancing the services and programs of the Old Westbury Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

Sports Information Interns Thomas Manzello and Nicole Sasu-Twum were also honored with appreciation awards for their dedication and commitment to Old Westbury Athletics.
