Men’s Basketball Soars Past York to Victory on Tuesday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was victorious over the Cardinals of York College on Tuesday night. The final score was 93-83 in favor of the Panthers.

Old Westbury now advances to 4-2 on the season.
 
From the start, neither side could find a significant lead until York pulled out in front just five minutes into the game, taking a seven-point lead.
 
The Panthers closed the gap and tied the game with just roughly 12-minutes to go in the first half thanks to a layup from Tim Waite, a three-pointer from Kellen Leake and a fast break layup from Jamari Williams.
 
From there, the Panthers took control of the lead and held it for the remainder of the first half. The Panthers' largest lead of the opening half was 13 points. The team saw two big-time dunks thanks to Leake and Williams.
 
The Panthers went into halftime ahead by 13 points with a score of 49-36.
 
OW stayed in control of the lead for a large portion of the second half. York managed to close the gap a few times, but the Panthers' defense held true. York was unable to make it a one possession game throughout the remainder of the game.
 
The Panthers walked way with the victory and took down York by a final score of 93-83.
 
As a team, the Panthers shot the ball effectively as they shot 53 percent from the floor, 47 percent from behind-the-arc and 71 percent from the free-throw line. OW forced 13 turnovers by York which led directly to 18 points.
 
Kellen Leake had a dominant night as he finished with 25 points, five rebounds and three assists. Leake went 4-7 from three-point range and 10-14 from the floor.
 
Amadi Lee-Kane had another impressive outing as he surpassed 500 career points on a three-pointer in the first half. Lee-Kane recorded 21 points, two rebounds, six assists, one block and two steals.
 
Jamari Williams recorded 18 points as well as seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Jaden Flemming recorded a double-double off the bench as he finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also had three assists, one block and two steals.
 
Next up, the Panthers will play host to the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's-Long Island to open Skyline Conference play. The Golden Eagles will come to the Clark Athletic Center on Saturday, December 14 at 12 PM.

Saturday's game will be the Panthers Toys for Tots Fundraising game. It will also be a 'White Out' game for the Panthers including free t-shirts, hot chocolate, photos and more.
