Men’s Basketball Falls to SUNY Poly in the Go 4 the Goal Tournament Championship on Sunday Afternoon

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated by the Wildcats of SUNY Poly at the Go 4 the Goal Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College on Sunday. The final score was 83-71 in favor of the Wildcats.
 
The Panthers now move to 5-4 on the season and remain at 0-1 in conference play.
 
Old Westbury found an early three-point lead as Amadi Lee-Kane cashed in on a pair of buckets alongside a jumper from Jamari Williams. SUNY Poly managed to close the gap, knotting up the core at 11-11 with just under 16 minutes remaining in the opening half.
 
As the half progressed, the Wildcats build a seven-point lead as they scored six unanswered points. The Panthers stopped the run when Williams made a layup in the paint to make it a 20-15 game in favor of SUNY Poly with just under 14 minutes to go in the half.

The Wildcats' largest lead of the first half was 10 points. Despite this, the Panthers were able to bring the score back to even with just 1:39 to go in the first half.
 
The Wildcats would score three more points and take a 46-43 lead over the Panthers at halftime.
 
In the second half, the Panthers struggled to find their groove offensively. Despite a pair of early baskets, the Panthers offense was stuck while the Wildcats went on another run to go up by double-digits. Just over a minute over the midway mark, the Panthers trailed by 10 points.  
 
The offensive struggles continued for the Panthers throughout the half and the Wildcats continued to capitalize. SUNY Poly's largest lead of the game came with just 40 seconds to go as they led by 17 points.
 
The Panthers would fall to the Wildcats by a final score of 83-71 in the second round of the Go 4 the Goal Tournament.
 
As a team, Old Westbury shot the ball 44 percent from the floor, 56 percent from behind-the-arc, and 71 percent from the free-throw line.

Amadi Lee-Kane led the Panthers in scoring as he finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Chris Smith finished the day with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Jamari Williams recorded a double-double and had 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Kellen Leake recorded 10 points and went 2-2 from three-point range.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return home and play host to the Mariners of the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, January 4. That game will tip-off at 12 PM.
