Men’s Basketball Defeated Despite Late Push Against Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated by the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday night. The final score was 69-62 in favor of Sarah Lawrence. 
 
The Panthers now fall to 7-10 overall on the season with a Skyline Conference record of 2-7.
 
Old Westbury fought hard throughout the first half as Jamari Williams showcased another strong start. Williams scored the first 10 points for the Panthers, connecting on two three-pointers and a fast-break dunk. 
 
Despite, battling to take control of a lead, the two sides were tied at 17 each with just six minutes to play in the first half. 
 
The Panthers found themselves down by just one point at the end of the first half with Sarah Lawrence in possession of the lead, 26-25. 
 
In the second half, the Panthers were out matched by the offensive effectiveness of the Gryphons. Sarah Lawrence took a large lead and would hold onto it for a substantial portion of the second half. The Gryphons' largest lead of the second half came with 5:37 to go in the second half as they led by 17 points. 
 
The Panthers managed to put together a late push and cut the deficit to just two possessions with a little over a minute to play in the half. Despite cutting their deficit, the Panthers were unable to connect on several attempts from behind-the-arc. 
 
Sarah Lawrence held on to their lead and walked away victorious over Old Westbury by a final score of 69-62. 
 
As a team, the Panthers shot the ball 36 percent from the floor, 24 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free-throw line. The team committed nine turnovers compared to SLC's 19. 
 
Zion Williams led the Panthers in scoring as he finished the game with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Jamari Williams recorded 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Amadi Lee-Kane led the team in steals as he finished the night with five steals as well as 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will continue their homestand and prepare for another Skyline Conference matchup. The Panthers will play host to the Knights of Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, February 1. Tip-off is set for 12 PM from the Clark Center Gymnasium.
