Men’s Basketball Secures Big Victory Over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Senior Day

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team defeated the Bears of St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Saturday. The Panthers were victorious, 71-68.

Old Westbury now improves to 10-12 overall on the season and 5-9 in Skyline Conference play.

Prior to the game, the Panthers honored their senior student-athletes, Amadi Lee-Kane and Michael Obi. In addition, the Panthers honored their senior manager, Cameron Harewood.

Old Westbury found their groove offensively in the early going. The Panthers found a double-digit lead just six minutes into the game as they led by 11 points.

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn managed to close the gap and keep things close for several minutes in the first half. The Bears brought it to within one-point but the Panthers took their lead right back. Old Westbury went into halftime with a nine-point advantage, 43-34.

The second half was filled with excitement. The Panthers struggled slightly on the offensive side of the ball as they saw their nine-point halftime lead turn to a one-point deficit just four minutes into the second half.

The lead changed hands several times throughout the second half as SJBK turned it around. Despite that, Old Westbury managed to stay just slightly ahead and in control.  The Panthers trailed by one with 3:50 to go.

Amadi Lee-Kane would score a fast break layup with just under three minutes remaining that would put the Panthers back on top.

After a combination of strong defense and clock management, the Panthers found themselves at the free-throw line with 29 seconds remaining. Lee-Kane nailed both shots and the Panthers went on to secure their 71-68 victory over the Bears.

As a team, the Panthers shot the ball 40 percent from the floor, 42 percent from three-point range and 90 percent from the free-throw line.

Amadi Lee-Kane led the team in scoring as he finished with 20 points, as well as one rebound, three assists and two steals. Kellen Leake had another strong game and recorded 16 points, four rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Zion Williams recorded 15 points, five boards, and seven assists.
