Men's Basketball Drops Close Battle to Farmingdale State on Wednesday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team was defeated by the Rams of Farmingdale State College on Wednesday night. The final score was 89-81 in favor of the Rams.
 
Old Westbury now falls to 10-13 overall on the year with a conference record of 5-10. 
 
The Panthers had momentum from the start of this one as they found their groove offensively. Old Westbury connected on some key baskets to give them an early seven-point advantage with about 11 minutes to go in the half. 
 
Farmingdale responded with a run of their own where they took a five-point advantage with 8:15 to go in the first half.
 
The two sides battled for the remainder of the half and the Panthers managed to come out on top with a one-point lead at halftime thanks to a three-pointer from the reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, Zion Williams. The Panthers led 39-38 at halftime. 
 
In the second half, the two sides continued to bring the intensity. The Clark Center Gymnasium was filled with a packed crowd. Old Westbury found another two-possession lead, up six with 11:09 to go in the second half. The Panthers held their lead until 56:16 to-go when FSC hit a big-time three-pointer courtesy of Michael Notias that evened the scoreboard at 68 a-piece. 
 
From there, the Rams grabbed control of a lead and would not look back. Farmingdale continued to grow their lead and would hold on until the end. The Rams bested the Panthers and came out victorious, 89-81. 
 
Throughout the game, the Panthers shot the ball 48 percent from the floor, 42 percent from behind the arc and 80 percent from the free-throw line. 
 
Zion Williams led the Panthers in scoring once again as he finished with 21 points, two rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals. Kellen Leake finished the night going 4-8 from three-point range. Leake recorded 16 points, three boards, three assists, one block and one steal. 
 
Amadi Lee-Kane recorded 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Joel Ofori had a double-double and finished the night with 12 points, 11 rebounds three assists, three blocks and one steal. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will look to round out the regular season with a win. The Panthers will hit the road for a matchup against SUNY Maritime this Saturday, February 22. That game will tip-off at 3 PM.
