Men’s Volleyball Falls to Lehman in Season Opener on Tuesday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team was defeated on Tuesday night in the team's season opener to the Lightning of Lehman College, 3-1.
 
The Panthers struggled in the early going to find their groove. Lehman managed to find a quick 5-0 lead. The Panthers were able to capitalize on several mistakes made by the Lightning. 
 
Old Westbury managed to close the gap in the first set but would fall short, losing the opening set, 25-17. 
 
In the second set, the Panthers were able to take advantage of a lineup change made by Lehman. The Panthers' attack dominated with a match high 13 kills. Old Westbury went on to retain their lead, 25-19. 
 
OW struggled once again in the third set to slow the Lehman attack. The Panthers were playing from behind in both the third and fourth sets. Lehman managed to press on the gas and take both sets to give them the match victory, 3-1. 
 
For the Panthers, Daniel Feliz led the way with 12 kills. Shane Kielb finished with six kills, and one block. Damian Villamill recorded three service aces as well as six kills. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will kick off Skyline Conference play. The Panthers will play host to the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College on Thursday, February 6. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 PM in the Clark Center Gymnasium.
