Men's Basketball Falls Short to St. Joseph's Long Island on Saturday Afternoon

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury Men's basketball team was defeated by the St. Joseph's University Long Island Golden Eagles by a score of 73-63.
 
The Panthers now sit at an overall record of 8-12, and hold a conference record of 3-9.
 
Old Westbury would get out to a strong start scoring 11 unanswered points to open the game, of which Zion Williams scored six. The Panthers would continue to hold a double-digit lead until the 9:01 mark with a 25-13 score.
 
St. Joseph's would respond with a 19-6 run to end half taking a one-point lead at 32-31. The Golden Eagles shot 5-10 from three in the first half with the Panthers only hitting 3-12 from that mark.
 
St. Joseph's would start the second half on an 11-4 run taking an eight-point lead within the first three minutes. The Golden Eagles would continue their hot streak adding a 15-5 run one minute later creating a 16-point gap with nine minutes remaining
 
St. Joseph's lead would never dip under double-digits and would finish out the game winning 73-63.
 
Zion Williams had the big game for Old Westbury scoring 22 points adding five rebounds and eight assists. This was his second-highest scoring game of the season.
 
Next up, the Panthers will face off in a conference battle against the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Old Westbury was held to just 39 points in their first matchup on January 4. Tip-off against the Mariners is scheduled for 7 PM on Tuesday, February 11.
