Baseball Picks Up Another Non-Conference Win Over Vassar on Wednesday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team as victorious once again on Wednesday as the team defeated the Brewers of Vassar College. The final score was 9-6 in favor of the Panthers. 
 
Old Westbury now improves to 9-5 on the 2025 season. 
 
The Brewers got off to a fast start as they scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on an RBI double to left center field. The Brewers would score again in the third inning on a wild pitch. Vassar held a 2-0 lead as the Panthers came to bat in the bottom of the third inning.
 
The Panthers' offense exploded in the bottom of the third inning. First JJ Palumbo was hit by a pitch to walk in a run. Mike Petrucelly would blast a grand slam off the scoreboard to grow the Panthers lead to 5-2. 
 
Vassar would respond in the fifth inning, adding a run on a sacrifice fly to score one runner from third. 
 
The Panthers would score one run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Angelo Velez drew a walk to score Joe Morreale from third. 
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Petrucelly continued his dominant day with a two-RBI double to left field. Petrucelly's double made it an 8-3 game. 
 
Vassar tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but the Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI single from Palumbo to score Dominic Felicetti
 
Despite the Brewers scoring one run in the ninth, the Panthers would hold on and walk away with the victory by a final score of 9-6. 
 
JJ Palumbo, Dominic Felicetti, and RJ Azarieh each went 2-4 from the plate. Jacob Taormina recorded a hit and two runs. Mike Petrucelly was dominat and finished the game with two hits, one run, one walk and six RBIs. Petrucelly homered (grand slam) and doubled.
 
 
Justin Aramini got the start and threw five solid innings. Aramini allowed just two hits and three earned runs. Aramini struck out three batters and recorded the win. Anthony Ponzo would throw two innings of relief and struck out three batters, and allowing three hits. Nick Inzerillo would also throw two innings of relief and was credited with the save. Inzerillo allowed three hits and one earned run. He also recorded a strikeout. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will begin conference play. The Panthers are set to host Maritime College this Sunday, March 30. The doubleheader will take place from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex with the first game scheduled for 11 AM.
