Baseball Drops Pair of Skyline Conference Games to Mount Saint Mary on Monday

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team was defeated in both sides of Monday's conference doubleheader against the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College. The final scores were 2-11 and 2-18, respectively.
 
Old Westbury now falls to 11-11 on the season and holds a conference record of 2-6. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (2) – Mount Saint Mary (11) [Seven Innings]
 
The Knights got things going fast as they poured on six runs combined in the bottom half of the second and third innings. 
 
Old Westbury sparked a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings courtesy of a homer from Mike Petrucelly and an RBI single from RJ Azarieh
 
With the score, 6-2 in favor of the Knights, MSMC managed to tack on five more insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. 
 
The Panthers were unable to compile any more runs and would fall to the Knights in the opening game, 11-2. 
 
As a team, the Panthers recorded seven hits. JJ Palumbo and Joe Morreale each went 2-3 from the dish. Mike Petrucelly, RJ Azarieh and Jacob Taormina each recorded a hit while Petrucelly and Azarieh had RBIs. 
 
On the mound, Kyle Cavataio got the start and tossed four innings. He allowed 10 runs and three walks. Cavataio would strike out two batters. 


Game Two- SUNY old Westbury (2) – Mount Saint Mary (18) [Seven Innings]
 
The Panthers offense struggled to drive in runs one again despite an early first inning run. 
 
Old Westbury scored first in the top of the first inning on another RBI single from RJ Azarieh
 
MSMC then scored 18 straight runs from the bottom of the first inning through the bottom of the fifth inning. 
 
The Panthers managed to add one more run in the top of the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from Joe Morreale
 
Old Westbury would fall to Mount Saint Mary in seven innings by a score of 18-2. 
 
The Panthers combined for nine hits and two runs. RJ Azarieh had the only multi-hit game with two hits and an RBI. Angelo Velez, Nick Papgeorge, Mike Petrucelly, Joe Morreale, Brian McCloskey, Nick Mace and James Reilly each recorded hits. 
 
Louis Pizzileo started for the Panthers, throwing 1.2 innings. Pizzileo struck out two batters while allowing five hits and six earned runs. 
 
In relief, Mike Balnis and Donny Whalen each recorded a strikeout. 
 
Next up, the Panthers return to conference play, tomorrow, April 15 for a home matchup against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The first game of the doubleheader is set for 3 PM from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
