Baseball Drops Pair of Conference Games to Manhattanville on Friday Afternoon

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team was defeated by the Valiants of Manhattanville University on Friday. The final scores were 0-7 and 7-13, respectively.
 
Old Westbury drops to 16-15 overall on the season and holds a Skyline Conference record of 6-10.
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (0) – Manhattanville (7) [Seven Innings]
 
The Valiants scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single to third base.
 
Manhattanville went on to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
 
Old Westbury failed to score a run and rally. Manhattanville took the first game of the day, 7-0.
 
The Panthers saw five total hits as a team. Jacob Taormina, RJ Azarieh, and Mike Petrucelly each recorded a hit. Nick Giovanakis went 2-2 at the dish.
 
RJ Azarieh got the start for the Panthers. He allowed five hits, five runs and three walks. In relief, Jonathan Kortright threw two innings, where he allowed two hits and two runs.
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (7) – Maritime (13)
 
The Panthers seemed to have found their groove offensively in the second game of the day.
 
Old Westbury scored a pair of runs in the opening inning thanks to a run from Jacob Taormina and an RBI single from JJ Palumbo.
 
With a 2-0 lead, Old Westbury allowed three runs in the bottom of the second inning.
 
The Panthers struck once again with a big fourth inning. In the top of the fourth inning, Taormina recorded an RBI single down the line, RJ Azarieh had an RBI single to the short stop, Mike Petrucelly hit a sacrifice fly to score Taormina, Palumbo hit for another RBI and Zachary Horowitz hit an RBI single to left center.
 
Despite holding a 7-3 lead, Old Westbury gave up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning followed by a run in the seventh.
 
The Panthers were unable to compile any runs. In addition, the Valiants added three insurance runs in the eighth.
 
OW would fall short in the second game and fell, 13-7.
 
Jacob Taormina had a strong game as he went 3-4 at the dish with an RBI and two runs. JJ Palumbo finished with two hits and two RBIs. Nick Giovanakis, Brian McCloskey, Zachary Horowitz, RJ Azarieh and Mike Petrucelly each combined for hits.
 
Kyle Cavataio got the start where he threw four innings and allowed seven hits and three runs. Louis Pizzileo threw two innings, allowing six hits, five earned runs and one walk.
 
Next up, the Panthers will remain on the road for a conference doubleheader against Yeshiva University this Sunday, April 27. The first game is scheduled for 2 PM.
