Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Looking to pick back up right where they last left off following a dominant 14–1 victory over Colby-Sawyer College earlier in the day, the SUNY Old Westbury baseball team returned to the diamond Sunday afternoon to take on Ursinus College as part of the Myrtle Beach Spring Games. The Panthers were defeated 14–4 by the Bears.

Ursinus wasted little time generating offense as the Bears plated six runs in the opening inning to take an early lead. Ursinus continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the contest, finishing the afternoon with 12 total hits compared to nine for the Panthers.

Old Westbury was able to get on the scoreboard in the first inning as senior JT Torres delivered an RBI double, helping the Panthers strike early.

Despite the loss, the Panthers showed some positives offensively finishing the game with nine total hits. Senior JT Torres led the way at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI, and a run scored.

Senior Nick Mace also had a productive afternoon finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, while sophomore JJ Palumbo added a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Additional offensive contributions came from freshmen AJ Giel, junior Mike Tiseo, and senior Dennis Lynch, who each recorded a hit for Old Westbury as the Panthers continued to generate scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

The Panthers also remained active on the basepaths as Brandon Hernandez and Noah Tannenbaum each recorded a stolen base.

Defensively, Old Westbury worked through a difficult opening inning but continued to compete throughout the remainder of the game as the pitching staff battled against the Ursinus lineup.

The Panthers will continue play at the Myrtle Beach Spring Games as they turn their attention to Mount Aloysius College on Monday, March 16 at 9:00 a.m. in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
