MEN’S HOOPS WELL RECOGNIZED ON ALL-SKYLINE CONFERENCE AWARDS

Shane DeNully, Hakiem George and Lester Prosper named All-Skyline Conference Second-Team

CLIFTON PARK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury seniors Shane DeNully and Hakiem George along with junior Lester Prosper are the OW highlights to the 2009-10 All-Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Awards released Tuesday. DeNully, George and Prosper were each named to the All-Skyline Conference Second-Team.

DeNully was named All-Skyline Second Team and led the Skyline Conference in assists with 6.08 per game. He also ranked third in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (3.4) and ninth in assists per game (6.08). Shane recorded a season-high 14 assists on January 5 in an 83-72 win over St. Joseph's-L.I. The Bronx, New York native is averaging 6.0 points and 1.6 steals per game and converts 76.7 percent (6th in Skyline Conference) from the free throw line.

George earned his second consecutive All-Skyline Second Team selection after ranking 11th in the Skyline Conference in scoring with 13.1 points per game, ninth in steals at 1.96 per game and fifth in minutes played at 34.07 per game. He also shot 75 percent from the free throw line (7th in Skyline Conference). 36.8 percent from three-point range (8th in Skyline Conference) and knocked down an average of 2.11 three-pointers per game (5th in Skyline Conference).

Prosper was pegged All-Skyline Conference Second-Team for the first time since the 2007-08 season. He was 13th in the conference in scoring (12.6), second in rebounding (8.6) 74.5 percent from the free throw line (9th in and fourth in blocked shots (1.54), second in offensive rebounds (3.08), fifth in defensive rebounds (5.50). He was the leading scorer for Old Westbury in nine games and led the squad in rebounds in 18 games. This season, Prosper was recognized by the ECAC as a Co-Player of the Week (one time) and as the Skyline Conference Player of the Week (two times). He was also named to the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll (four times).

Old Westbury, 20-7, will be the No. 1 seed in the 2010 ECAC Metro Tournament at the Clark Athletic Center in Old Westbury, March 3-7. Old Westbury's first action will be Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. against No. 8 seed Medgar Evers Cougars. If Old Westbury wins on Wednesday, they will take on the winner of the No. 4 Stevens vs. No. 5 Baruch contest to be played March 6 in Old Westbury at 12:30 p.m. Old Westbury last appeared in the ECAC in 2007 and won the tournament in 1987.
