Panthers end season with 20-19 overall record

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team recorded just three hits off Ramapo starter Deanna Giordano as the Ramapo Roadrunners eliminated the Panthers from the ECAC Metro Region Championship Quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. 

The loss moves Old Westbury to 20-19, marking the second consecutive season with 20-plus wins while Ramapo improves to 28-15 and will now face the winner of today's No. 4 Staten Island – No. 5 Rutgers-Camden battle on Saturday. 

Deborah Ciccarelli took the loss for the Panthers. Ciccarelli allowed just one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work. Alyssa Clancy took over in the fifth innings and logged two innings of circle work, surrendering just one hit while fanning two. Deanna Giordano earned the win for Ramapo. Giordano gave up only three hits in seven innings of work, registering 10 strikeouts. 

Ramapo took a 2-0 lead at the end of two innings when Janet Brown singled home Stephanie Malgeri for the first run. Two batters later, Kelsey Higgins scored on an error by second baseman Nicole Mannino

Ramapo increased its 2-0 lead with a single by Danielle Rothenberger with two outs and scored during the next at bat on an error by left fielder #Jarelis Torres to cap off the scoring. 

Samantha Siegler paced the Old Westbury offensive attack. Siegler clubbed a pair of doubles and went 2-for-3 at the plate while Jarelis Torres singled in the sixth inning. Stephanie Malgeri led the Ramapo offense with two hits, including a double. 

Sherrida Maxwell, the lone senior on the team, leaves Old Westbury as a member of the two 20-plus win teams. Old Westbury will be returning 13 of 14 Panthers next year.
