OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – – The SUNY College at Old Westbury swimming program hosted Mount Saint Vincent and Sarah Lawrence Thursday evening in a battle at the Old Westbury Aquatic Center. The Panther men were edged 42-41 to Mount Saint Vincent while the women lost to Mount Saint Vincent 38-31 and 81-11 to Sarah Lawrence.
Michael Gavrilchin and
Cameron Russo both captured a pair of victories on the day. Gavrilchin won the 200 IM (2:14.90) and 100 backstroke (55.44) events while Russo claimed top honors in the 200 freestyle (2:05.41) and 100 butterfly (1:04.80). Other individual winners for Old Westbury were Stephan Paul (1:12.26 – 100 Breaststroke) and
Gregory Mertens (25.97 - 50 Freestyle). Old Westbury also swept the relays, touching the wall in a season-best 1:53.67 in the 200 medley relay and closed out with the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.50.
On the women's side, Christa Foershner led the way with a pair of second place finishes to pace Old Westbury. Foershner clocked 1:28.24 in the 100 backstroke and 1:33.15 in the 100 butterfly.
Rebecca Huang registered a time of 23:27.70 in the 1000 freestyle to earn second place.
BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pool on Saturday (Jan. 29), in Brooklyn, New York for a non-conference meet. Race time is set for 1 p.m..
