NEW YORK, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team treated the Yeshiva Maccabees to a 77-55 Skyline Conference defeat Thursday evening at the Furst Gymnasium in New York, New York. The win improves OW to 8-10 on the season and 7-6 in conference play as Yeshiva drops to 3-15 and 3-11, respectively.
Old Westbury enjoyed a 37-31 lead at intermission due in part to 47.1 percent shooting, hitting 16-of-34 from the field. Old Westbury pulled away in the second half due in part to 50 percent shooting (16-of-32) from the floor as Yeshiva struggled, knocking down just 8-of-22 (36.4 percent). OW outscored YU 40-24 over the final 20 minutes.
Seniors
Lester Prosper and
Frantz Granjean led the way for the Panthers. Prosper finished with a game-high 24 points and three blocked shots to go with six rebounds (four offensive) and two steals. Granjean totaled 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting while
Jamal Little followed with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Tymel Ambrose had another solid day running the OW offensive attack as he finished with a game-high 10 assists. This marks his fourth consecutive games with double-digit assists.
Dovie Hoffman paced Yeshiva with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Gil Bash chipped in with 10 points and five boards while Niv Zinder dished out seven assists in defeat.
OW edged YU in the shooting department, hitting 47.8 percent (32-of-67) from the field, compared to 46.8 percent (22-of-47). The Panthers also won the battled of the boards, 34-25, including 15-7 off the offensive glass.
SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Saturday (Feb. 5), taking on Sage Gators in a Skyline Conference battle on the road in Troy, New York. Game time is set to tip at 3 p.m. from the Kahl Gymnasium.
