MEN’S HOOPS OUTDUELED BY PURCHASE IN SKYLINE QUARTERFINALS

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team saw their season come to an end when they dropped an 86-69 Skyline Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinal matchup to the Purchase Panthers on Tuesday evening in Purchase, New York.  Fifth-seed Old Westbury concludes the season with a 13-13 record.  Fourth-seeded Purchase improved to 13-13 an will travel to take on top-seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. on Thursday in Patchogue, New York

Tevon McNair dropped in a layup to break the scoring ice just 20 seconds into the contest to give Old Westbury its lone lead.  Purchase replied with a 12-0 run from 19:06 to 15:14 to take a double-digit advantage.  Andre Nixon's three-pointer with 7:27 remaining in the half gave Purchase a 37-17 lead followed by John Pressley's layup to put his team up by 22, their largest lead of the game.  Old Westbury closed ou the final 6:27 with a 17-6 run to head into the break trailing 45-34. 

Old Westbury closed the deficit to single-digits as McNair's layup with 17:35 made it 49-41.  Rashawn McCarthy brought Old Westbury within two points twice, at 14:21 and 8:53.  Purchase replied with a 9-0 run and extended their lead to as many as 19 when they used a 26-11 run over the final 8:38 to secure the victory. 

Jamal Little's 14 points led all Old Westbury scorers.  Tevon McNair followed with his 12th double-double of the season, combining 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with four assists and two steals.  Kerel Mitchell and Rashawn McCarthy contributed 12 points apiece while Mitchell nabbed three steals. Omari Trebuse chipped in with nine points.

Andre Nixon poured in a game-high 26 points for Purchase, hitting on 10-of-12 from the field to go with six rebounds and three steals.  Amar Reynolds scored 16, DJ Smith had 15 points and five assists while Craig Davis finished with 11 points and three blocks.

Purchase outshot Old Westbury from the field 57.1 percent (28-49 FG) to 40.3 percent (25-62 FG).  Purchase connected on7-of-16 from three-point land while Old Westbury hit 6-of-26.  Purchase knocked down 23-of-28 from the free-throw line while Old Westbury landed 13-of-22.  Purchase also held a 30-28 rebounding advantage, turning nine offensive boards into 14 second chance points.  Purchase also converted 17 Old Westbury turnovers into 30 points.
